Programs for Children (restarting January 24th)
Family Storyhour
Family Storyhour runs every Tuesday morning at 10:30. Children of all ages and their caregivers will join Miss Liz for stories, songs, some parachute play and a craft (young children may need parental help with the craft). The stories and craft will be based off of a new theme each week, but rhymes and songs remain the same for longer periods of time for children to learn and look forward to. Rhymes and songs are available here on the webpage to enable sharing at home. This free storyhour takes place in the Library Large Meeting Room, and no registration is required.
Pajamaly Family Storyhour
Our evening session of Family Storyhour changes back to Wednesdays at 6:30 PM as of October 5th, and runs each week thereafter. Miss Liz invites children and families to don their best PJs for storyhour - maybe even bring your favorite cuddly to share the stories! Like our morning session, each storyhour includes stories and a craft based on a theme (usually the same as our Tuesday session), and seasonal songs and rhymes as well as the popular parachute. Activities may vary dependent on the range of ages - all ages are welcome! This free storyhour takes place in the Library Large meeting room, and no registration is required.
Lego Club
Thursday afternoons from 4 PM - 5PM, kids aged 6 years and older are invited to join us for our Lego Club. Each week, participants get to hone their Lego skills with friends. A theme will be offered, but it is not required to build according to the theme. We will display kids' creations in the Children's Library each week. The library will be providing Legos, but kids are invited to bring their own if they'd prefer. Certain tables will be set aside for kids using their own toys, but the Library is not responsible if their Legos get mixed up with the Library stock. This free program will take place in the Library Large Meeting Room, and no registration is required.
Half Day/Craft Day
This school year, keep an eye out at the Library when those early release days are around the corner. The Library will be offering "Half Day/Craft Day" programs for kids and teens for those early school days. Specific craft programs will be announced as the season approaches for grades K-5 at 2:30-3:30 PM on designated half-days.
Wee Read Lapsit and Playgroup
Our littlest patrons and their caregivers are invited back to Wee Read Lapsit and Playgroup, which will run Thursdays at 10:30 AM. This storyhour is specifically geared towards children aged 3 years and younger, and includes lap rhymes and bounces, songs and fingerplays, and stories that encourage pre-literacy and socialization skills. Toddlers, babies and caregivers will have time both before and after the lapsit to socialize and play. The lapsit itself will run 10:45 - 11 and the room will remain open to families until 11:30 for the playgroup portion, with toys provided. This is a drop-in program, and free of charge, taking place in the Library Meeting Room.
Specialty Programs
Whenever able, the Children's Library offers specialty programming, often on half-days and school vacation. The programs vary widely in theme, from live animal programs, puppet and theatre entertainment, musical guests and more! Please check the main children's webpage and the library calendar for information on these events. Program announcements will also be advertised in the local newspaper and within the library building.
