Middleborough High School Summer Reading Logs

The Reading Log is not required; it is optional.

As part of the summer reading assignment, you are encouraged to keep a reading log. The purpose of the reading log is twofold. First, it should help you understand the book as you read it, and second, you may use the log when you take the summer reading test in your English class. Summer reading tests ask both objective questions and essay questions.

The design of the reading log is as follows:

In a three-ring binder or notebook and in your handwriting you are to log in the date, time, and pages or chapters read at each reading session. Your log should include major elements of plot, consideration of characters including description and motivation, settings, theme, significant details and anything else you feel is noteworthy or significant including questions you may have about anything that seems confusing to you in that section of the book.

Your reading logs will be passed in to your English teacher for credit and then handed back to you on the day of the summer reading test. Reading logs that do not follow the design described above will not be accepted by the teacher.

Reminder: As you consider the books on your list you may wish to read an on-line synopis and/or recommendations of each one before you make your choice.
